This series is the beginning of a collage/mixed-media practice which incorporates by-products of photos and print projects, along with various painting and mark making methods, into an abstract assemblage of shapes, colors, and imagery.
The process is largely automatic, using intuition as a guide while allowing elements to fall where they may. With date stamps as literal signifiers, the process documents itself, creating a record of its own making. Much of the collage material is made up of original photography, taken locally in PDX, as well as some found material such as coupons and clippings from local papers.
While the ensemble of imagery and form evokes an overarching feeling, the details tell their own stories which may seem completely independent from the whole.
